Surface iQ PVC-Free Wallcoverings by Len-Tex are manufactured without the use of harmful components, therefore disposal of the wallcovering at the end of its useful life can be accomplished through one of the following options:

Waste to Energy Recycling

Surface iQ wallcoverings are derived from natural gas and accordingly possess a significant stored energy value. We recommend committing Surface iQ wallcoverings to an energy recovery (also known as waste to energy or WTE) facility. The combustion by-products are water vapor, CO2 and CO, cleaner than the combustion by-products of wood or coal. Today, there are WTE plants in 32 states in the U.S. generating more than 2,800 megawatts of electricity per day (see attached list). This is enough electricity to power 2.4 million homes and factories and replaces approximately 30 million barrels of oil annually (www.swana.org). Surface iQ has earned the Cradle-to-Cradle certification for healthy and sustainable product design from MBDC, based on material reutilization of clean BTUs.

Landfill

Surface iQ wallcoverings can be safely landfilled without concern of pollutants leaching out of the wallcovering, due to the clean construction of the polyethylene. Surface iQ is plasticizer and heavy metals free, as well as being CONEG compliant (containing no cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead or mercury).

Return to the Mill

We will accept recovered Surface iQ wallcovering at the end of its useful life, and utilize it in our local waste to energy recycling program, which creates clean fuel for our local energy grid. Details of the program are available through your local MDC representative. Please take into consideration the carbon impact of returning material to Len-Tex (a truck carrying the reclaimed wallcovering will emit 3.77 pounds of CO2 per mile traveled). Please see separate document with list of WTE facilities in the U.S. for a possible thermal energy recycling option in your area.
