Surface iQ technology utilizes an engineered polyethylene (PE) film, laminated to our Type II non-woven backing (which is primarily cellulose and polyester). Polyethylene has many desirable attributes and is extremely safe to manufacture, use and dispose of. Derived from ethylene, which is produced from natural gas, Surface iQ wallcoverings have an embodied energy value of approximately .202Kw/H per linear yard (689 BTU/H). Unlike PVC that is rigid by its nature, PE is inherently soft and supple therefore no plasticizer needs to be added. Additionally, PE has a low processing temperature in comparison to PVC, which enables Len-Tex to use one-third less energy to manufacture their Surface iQ products. Lastly, Greenpeace has identified PE as one of the least environmentally harmful plastics and recommends it as an alternative to PVC.

Surface iQ wallcoverings are free of PVC and elemental chlorine and also contain no heavy metals, formaldehyde or ozone depleting chemicals in all film, backing, adhesive, inks and coatings. They contain a halogen-free fire retardant and are Class "A" fire rated when tested in accordance with ASTM E-84. They provide exceptional tear (63 x 50) and tensile (113 x 99) strengths. Surface iQ wallcoverings have passed the Toxicity test required by the city of New York, Department of Buildings. They contain an anti-microbial additive to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew and have been tested in accordance with ASTM G-21 and G-22 which has shown that Surface iQ does not support bacterial or fungal growth. Lastly, they have been subjected to the stain and scrub tests (ASTM F93) and have exhibited excellent stain resistance and scrubbability results.

Surface iQ wallcoverings are printed exclusively with water-based inks and top-finished resulting in very low VOC levels. They have been tested in accordance with the State of California Material VOC Emission Test and have passed section 01350 protocol and Scientific Certification (SCS) Low Emitting Material Test.
